On October 23, America House organized a live session with Elena Rățoi, Program Officer at the Center for International Private Enterprises (CIPE), and the coordinator of the project “Reducing Barriers to Women’s Economic Empowerment in Moldova”. Elena spoke about her work in promoting women’s participation in politics and encouraging them to aspire to leadership positions, as well as about the importance of women’s economic empowerment.
The economic empowerment of women is essential for a prosperous future in the Republic of Moldova. In a country where women make up 52% of the total population, women must be given equal opportunities for education and work, as well as decent payment to build the life they aspire to.
At present, very few women hold management positions, while most are an important part of the unskilled and unpaid workforce, performing domestic and childcare activities.
During the live session, Elena discussed the barriers women face in their careers and gave solutions for overcoming them. Moreover, our guest speaker analyzed the obstacles women entrepreneurs or women who want to start a business face, and what solutions they have.
