Between 14-18 of September, America House hosted the personal development program “Space4change”. It was attended by young people aged 14-18, who learned more about citizen participation, the legal framework for participation and the methods and techniques by which they can become active in their society.
The speakers of the course Ana Bezărău and Andrei Didenco, from the Association for Innovation, Education and Youth Development, approached 5 topics:
- Legal framework for citizen participation;
- Lobby and advocacy in promoting community interests;
- Involvement in decision making: forms and methods;
- Organizing and carrying out community actions;
- Elections – a democratic process of participation.
During these training sessions, the participants, through various interactive ways, such as games, simulations and role playing, became familiar with the legal framework for the involvement of young people in the civic life of the state, as well as the forms of involvement in the decision-making process. Participants were challenged to organize an advocacy campaign to promote an issue in their community or school. The young people learned various questionnaire tools and put them into practice.
At the end of the course, they performed a simulation of the most democratic form of participation, the elections through an interactive exercise with the support of the America House Chisinau team.
