On March 27 America House visitors participated in the ”News or Noise” event moderated by Magia Krause, Regional Public Engagement Specialist at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv who oversees the American Spaces program in Ukraine and Moldova. Prior to this tour, she served at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow and in the Office of American Spaces in Washington, D.C. Before joining the Department of State, Magia worked in academic and public libraries for nearly ten years and received her Ph.D. in Information from the University of Michigan. She is a Fulbright alumna (Romania, 2003-2004) and a former English teacher in Central Europe between 1999-2001. Magia grew up in New York City where her second home was the Queens Public Library. The participants learned how to differentiate news from other types of information. The session was based on materials from the Newseum, positioned as a leading champion of free expression in the world today.
