Written by Golban Bianca
On Saturday, June 4, at America House, took place the traditional Meet an American event. The guest was Thomas Hill, Region Disaster Officer at the Red Cross from Los Angeles. The participants had the opportunity to have an open conversation with the Red Cross worker and to ask all the questions they had about this organization, its opportunities, and how it works.
In the beginning, the speaker made an introduction on how the Red Cross is structured, how many people work there, and how many volunteers there are. He also discussed how he handles stress, and what were some of the most difficult situations that he had seen at work.
The participants got to know about the Red Cross in the Republic of Moldova and its volunteering opportunities. They discovered the ups and downs of the job and the main responsibilities that come with it.
In the end, the Region Disaster Officer, Thomas Hill answered all the questions that the guests had. He explained why he loves his job and how important is to make a living out of something you are passionate about.
The Red Cross is the largest humanitarian network where many good, kind, and honest people are working, just like Thomas. Every day they do everything they can to help the people all around the world, without judging them based on their religion, ethnicity, gender, or social status. Support is always welcomed, and they encourage you and everyone else to help by donating, volunteering, or sharing information. What about you, how do you think you can help?
