Discussion Session |What’s Like to Be a Young Leader
Written by Vladiuc Andreea
Leadership is an activity that requires patience and character, but the goal of bringing change is above all else.
The discussion session with the topic “What’s Like to Be a Young Leader”, took place on July 18, and was coordinated by Daniela Bruma, an American Spaces volunteer. As guests speakers were invited Adelina Corolenco and Veronica Cociug, two young active ladies, the vice-presidents of the Municipal Council of Students. The main purpose of the discussion was to represent, through their model, what it is like to be a young leader and to motivate other young people to spend their teenage years proactively.
The guest speakers talked about their own experiences, that is, how they got to take such a high position. According to them, the relationship between them, which was an adequate competition, helped them become vice presidents in “Centru” and “Ciocana” sectors. The girls always wanted to be active and leave a footprint by organizing events for youth and creating a pleasant atmosphere among other volunteers.
Adelina Corolenco emphasizes that one of the most fundamental factors for a good result is team building. Only by working in a group and maintaining satisfactory relationships with colleagues, especially avoiding shouting, you end up doing a worthy project or an appealing event.
Veronica talked about the lesson that volunteering offered her, namely the fact that she understood that being a leader is much more difficult than fulfilling requirements as an ordinary volunteer. From her own experience, he realized that you cannot know what is hidden behind an event and how the process of organizing an activity goes. Another lesson, according to Veronica, is that you should never have high expectations. Small expectations bring much more positive emotions and lead to the maximum appreciation of the final result.
The speakers encouraged teenagers to lead an active life and highlight those traits that will facilitate their work as future leaders, such as communication, patience, attention, and the ability to insist on their position. At the same time, Veronica mentioned that it is very important to be informed and able to give advice to colleagues in various situations.
Having said that, it is obvious that these young ladies demonstrated by their example day by day that leadership is a job that requires a lot of strength of character.
